Tie Up Your Laces...It's Time To Go Hiking!

Yes! It's finally summer, which means the sun stays out past 5pm and there's no more reluctant "it's dark outside" after-work gym sessions to squeeze in some exercise in your hectic schedule. Granted, many of you are probably avid weekend warriors to ski resorts, but after a while it does take a toll on your wallet. Gas money, lift tickets or season passes, jackets, pants, helmets, lodge food, etc. It all adds up QUICKLY.

THAT is why I must say that hiking is one of my most favorite forms of outdoor exercise. Most of the beautiful trails in the U.S. are free, "equipment" includes shorts and a pair of sneakers, and most importantly, you can hike no matter where you live in the country. Hiking doesn't require much skill, either. If you plan on hiking one of Colorado's 14'ers, you'll need to invest in a pair of sturdy hiking boots, a nice waterproof jacket, and of course a hydration backpack. If you mostly plan on Saturday morning hikes close to home with the dog and a friend, boyriend, or your husband, then all you need is a good breakfast before you can get out there and spend some quality time outdoors in nature. Pack some snacks, water, your camera, and maybe even a bottle of wine in your backpack...and get out there to get some amazing exercise that is not only healthy, but FUN.

Take a look at the Top 100 Trails in the U.S. and try one next weekend! No matter where you live, there's some great trails and hikes near you.
