Late-Winter Getaways

Late-Winter Getaways

Posted by WinterWomen on Saturday, March 8, 2014

rebecca lifestyleThese days women are so busy multitasking their way through the day that we often lose sight of the need to escape from it all and just be a girl!  A girl, you say?  Yes! Go back to the days when you were just a girl. Remember?  You called a friend to join you to do something fun, and the two of you went and did it.

This March, call your friends and plan a trip to the mountains!  Whether you want to cruise the deepest terrain, glide over the groomers, or just cruise around town shopping and eating, we can help you decide and plan for that perfect late-winter getaway.

Northeast

Vermont: Bromley/Stratton area

Less than a four hour drive from Boston and you will arrive at a quintessential Vermont destination. Stay in Manchester, and when you're done cruising either of the ski resorts, you can shop your heart’s delight at the many high end retail outlets.

Midwest

Wisconsin: Wilmot

Travel to Wilmot Mountain, just an hour and half from Chicago, and you will have an all access pass to skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and don’t forget their famous Wednesday night Turtle Races! One of the best things about Wilmot is that the ski day doesn’t end when the sun goes down. You can make turns all the way until 11:00pm, seven a week!  Just be sure you haven’t spent too much time at the Turtle Race before heading back to the slopes!

Rockies

Colorado: Breckenridge

There are so many great choices just within a few hours of Denver, but one of our favorite resorts is Breckenridge. All levels of skiers and riders will find their niche within the 535 acres of terrain. Set in the quaint town of Breckenridge, visiting is a throwback to when life was simpler: one main street in, one main street out. Great shops, restaurants, and plenty of nightlife for those evenings when you aren’t ready to stop at happy hour!

Pacific Northwest

California: Squaw Valley

Squaw Valley, on the beautiful Lake Tahoe, is home to world-class skiing with 3,600 acres of trails (all abilities will find the terrain they are looking for!). Sure, it’s a great slope for families, but it’s an even better mountain for some girl time. After your day on the mountain, head over to La Chamois, recently voted one of the top 10 après destinations in the country!

Now that you have the resort, get packing! Be sure you have everything needed for a comfortable day on the slopes--and here are some of the must-have's that are often overlooked: Good ski socks. Don’t just think you can wear the cotton ones you go running in; be sure to invest in a pair of socks made specifically for your sport. They will offer warmth but also support and cushioning where you need it most. Second, always be sure to have the best top and bottom base layers – not cotton, either! Proper layers allow the outerwear garments to breathe properly, keeping you dry- and most importantly, warm. With all the new styles WinterWomen.com carries, you can look great without your jacket for a fun afternoon of après!
