The Only New Year's Resolutions Worth Making

The Only New Year's Resolutions Worth Making

Posted by WinterWomen on Wednesday, January 14, 2015

LiveLaughloveCan you believe it is 2015 already? I know I sure can’t. 2014 went by way too quickly and I have a confession to make: it was not my favorite year. So, what am I going to do to make 2015 one of my best years yet? I’m so glad you asked!

Flashback to midnight on January 1st, 2015: the ball has dropped, toasts have been made, and we have embraced to the sounds of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ blasting from the TV. Here I found myself contemplating what type of resolutions to make for the New Year to assure that I will not have a repeat of last year and what I can do to be the BEST me that I can possibly be in the New Year.

In my deep revelations, I decided rather than making resolutions that I may or (more than likely) may not follow, why even bother? I came to the realization that no matter how realistic your goals are, if you call them resolutions, you are setting yourself up for failure. As an alternative, I’ve decided that in the year 2015, I am going to challenge myself to attainable goals in an effort to gratify my mind and my well-being. Here is my list of tangible goals that I have set for myself and recommend that you follow as well in the year 2015 so you can make it your year.

Think More About Your Weight on the World Rather Than Your Weight on the Scale

The impression you leave on this world will always be on the lives of other people. The scale won’t remember you. It won’t tell weightonscalestories about you or laugh at your jokes. Do you want to lose 10 pounds this year? How about make 10 new acquaintances instead?

Your weight will always matter more in relationships and interactions than it does in numbers, I promise. Better yet, your 10 new friends will help build the support team that you need to shed those extra pounds, but who’s counting anyway?

Do Not Settle

Is your job or relationship making you feel terrible or holding you back from accomplishing your goals and dreams? Free yourself of it! There’s no better way (and no better time than now) to move forward in your life by removing the obstacles that are weighing you down.

Women are the most independent they have ever been in the history of society. You can make it on your own without the worthless boyfriend that makes you feel bad about yourself or job that pays well but leaves you feeling overworked and under-appreciated. Do not settle for anything less than what you are worth!

Learn to Live Off-Balanced

Society encourages us to find a “balance” in our lives, yet this leaves us feeling overwhelmed, discontented, and guilty. The problem isn’t us, however. It’s the message. Perfect balance is simply unattainable. As much as we try to live in perfect harmony, things are going to go wrong or simply not as planned. In order to enhance the quality of our lives, we need to learn to make changes.

We are “Off Balance” every day as we face unexpected circumstances and impending uncertainties. Being off balance is part of the human condition – our natural state of being. Being off balance is not a negative condition; it is a necessity for positive change. You MUST be off balance in order to learn, grow, love, provide, and improve.

Cut Yourself Some Slack

SlackliningWe are all imperfect organisms, prone to make bad decisions or indulge in self-doubt once in awhile. I have been told more than once in my life that “I am my own worst enemy” and it is so true! I over-think and over-analyze everything and always imagine the worse possible outcomes of any scenario. It’s difficult to get yourself out of these habits, but you (as do I) really have to cut yourself some slack!

Did your co-worker get the open higher-up position rather than yourself? Maybe it requires putting in extra hours that you couldn’t swing with only limited available babysitter hours during the day. Did you overhear your husband talking behind your back? Maybe he was planning your surprise 40th birthday party with your best friend. Did your boss give you constructive criticism on that project you’ve been slaving over daily? Maybe by making the suggested changes, you will get you that bonus you’ve been hoping for. Try to think positively about things and imagine the best possible outcomes. You will be surprised how positively it will affect your life.

Live Life to Its Fullest

I realize this is easier said than done; however, it is truly important add some fun to your life in 2015! Have you been dying to try sky-diving or take an Alaskan cruise to see the aurora borealis? What about buying the Groupon you’ve been thinking of purchasing for the beginner’s motorcycle class? Make it happen! 2015 is your year!

Recently, a friend showed me a Youtube video called The Time You Have (In Jelly Beans), which demonstrates the importance Jelly Beansof making the most out of your life. Each jelly bean represents a day in your life and you are shown how much of your life is spent sleeping, eating, working, commuting, watching TV, caring for others, bathing, and doing daily chores. It’s amazing to see how little time is left once all these aspects are taken away.  The really fun things you’ve thought about doing will become a reality quickly after getting a taste of how much time the average human actually has to explore the wonders this beautiful world has to offer. So what are you waiting for? Go live your life!

Now that I’ve declared my goals with you, we’d love to hear your goals for 2015! Please share them with us in the comments below.
